Fitbit Review

Hey guys, Justin here, Welcome to my Fitbit Review , in this review you will get my take on the FitBit Personal Tracker.

***Update- the new Fitbit Ultra has been released, check out my Fitbit Ultra Review****

Alright, so what is all the fuss about with this thing, right? Is it all its cracked up to be?

We all know there are thousands of pedometers and personal fitness trackers out there, so what is different about this one and why should you buy one .

I asked myself that same question before I made the decision to buy my Fitbit about five months ago.

I already had the Nike + pedometer, for the ipod and the the watch style, but alot of my Nike Shox are not Nike +, and it kinda sucks that I have to wear a specific pair of shoes for the Nike + to work. You would think they would make all their dang shoes compatible.

In short, YES the Fitbit is all its cracked up to be and yes I would rate it as a great investment to help in reaching your fitness and overall health goals.

That being said I will be covering some questions you may have like:

What is the Fitbit?

What Does it do?

What are the pros and cons of the Fitbit?

What are others saying about the Fitbit?

Where can you get your hands on one of these bad boys and what all will you get?

and giving you my personal thoughts and experiences with the Fitbit personal trainer.

What is the FitBit and What Does It Do?

The Fitbit is a revolutionary fitness aid that uses the same motion sensor technology that is used in the Nintendo Wii remote controls which measures motion in three dimensions. The Fitbit accurately tracks your physical activity, steps taken, distance traveled, calories burned and your overall sleep quality. The overall goal of the Fitbit is to make you more aware of your daily activity and promote you to live a more active lifestyle resulting in a healthier you.

Sleep Quality? What?

That’s right one of the cool features of the Fitbit is when you are laying down to sleep, simply hold the button down for 3 seconds which will put device in sleep mode. The Fitbit will track your total sleep time as well as how much movement you had while sleeping and how many times you woke up. The Fitbit will analyize this data and generate a overall sleep quality report for you online. Pretty Cool Right!! I think so.

What are the Pros and Cons of the Fitbit?

Pros

The FitBit measures your movement in three dimensions.

Measures your overall sleep quality

Great online tools, calorie counter, historical data, trends, awesome graphs and charts of your results

Top notch customer support

FitBit Reviews

“ I’ve used a fitbit for about a year. This does all it promises and the support staff is fantastic. I’ve had a few fitbits break and without any issues a replacement has been quickly sent out. I love it and have recommended to anyone who wants to track their fitness progress. Monitoring your sleep works very well too. I strongly recommend this product to everyone you wont be disppointed. ”

“I love my Fitbit. It’s cute and fun and motivating. I’m a data junkie, so I really love all the graphs and such and paid extra for the extra reporting. I bought it after I’d lost a lot of weight because I meant to stop and kept losing, and it’s helped. It would probably have helped me lose weight, too.

If you’re trying to lose weight, get the extra reporting. The food report will tell you if you’re going to gain or lose weight this week. Obviously, you’ll have to do your part–enter your food, exercise, burn more calories than you consume or eat less than you burn–but for me, weight loss was simple math and this would be a good tool to help you with that.”

“Many years ago I had one of the first SportsBrain models and I liked it, but I could never see my status unless I placed it in the holder and viewed on the website. Then they dropped off the faace of the earth for a while and my unit was obsolete…..so for years I have just used the average cheap pedometer or nothing.

Several gyms offer a month package with the exact same features as the Fitbit….so why not purchase it flat out for less than $100? I have had it for about 2 weeks and I am addicted, I have lost weight already (about 2.5 pounds) and I am tracking my food and feeling empowered….and you have a community for support and friends as well. Some of the best money I have spent in a while.”

“I use my fitbit every day now since October 2009. I waited till it came out in production patiently and glad I did. It has kept me competitive with myself and love the sleep tool. I even washed it attempting to clean it in the Washer & Dryer. Not a good Idea by the way. I dried it out using Rice, time and what not. It had lived but kept trying to config itself. I emailed customer support with my issue and asked if there were any other remdies. They mailed out a brand new fitbit to me no charge nothing.

It does not tell me I will lose weight by wearing my fitbit. I know that this is my tool to keep me going and moving and to burn more calories than I take in. The community pages and friends to keep me motivated and push me when I need a kick is even better.

I love it and will buy another if I happen to wash my replacement again. WELL WORTH THE PURCHASE”

“ Just started using the fitbit and it has been great with helping me track what I’m eating and comparing that to my activity. Amazing how much I was underestimating what I ate. Great to have the automatic updates to how much activity I’m doing. The Android tool is good for updating on the go. ”

“ I didn’t use it for the longest time & now that I’m getting more familiar w/ it, I love it! It’s small, clips right on to my bra and the pie chart says how active I am, which I love! I need to seriously amp it up. I can log my food intake and adjust my food habits w/ how much I’m actually burning through out the day. There is an extensive list of popular food, even fast food that has the calories listed. This little gadget does ALOT! I’m very pleased with my purchase. Less expensive than the Body Bugg and also less bulky & more concealable. No one knows I’m wearing it! KUDOS!!!”

My Personal Thoughts and Experiences With The FitBit Personal Trainer

I have had my FitBit for about 5 months now, and I can honestly say that it has changed the way I look at my fitness level and overall health. When I first got it I was excited but at same time I am typically a pretty darn lazy person. So adding all the food I ate that day and some of the other physical activities not tracked by the device took some getting use to but I got the hang of it after a few days. Then I couldn’t wait to get everything in there and start plating with all the charts and graphs. The sleep quality feature is by far my favorite, I could see why I was waking up all cranky in the morning, I was tossing and turning all night and not getting nearly the sleep I thought I was. With simple changes to what and when I was eating I could see my sleep quality starting to improve, now I am sleeping like a baby again.

The Fitbit does exactly what it is suppose to do, make you more aware of your daily activities and how they improve or hurt your overall fitness level. There is even this little plant/ flower on the side of the Fitbit (similar to the one you see in some cars that let you know how fuel efficient you are driving) that lets you know how you did over the last 3 hours, the more leaves on the plant the better you did. Overall this is a great product and I am glad I decided to spend the $99.95 on it and I know will be too.

So, Where can you get your hands on one of these bad boys?

I enjoy my Fitbit, until I fell on it and it broke. I contacted costumer service and they sent me a new one and let me keep the broken one and the accessories. The customer service it the best I have experienced. I stand behind this company %100.

Great Reveiw, thanks for the info, I just received my Fitbit last week and love it. I know this is going to help me reach my goal of losing 30 lbs this year. Thanks again

Thanks Karien, Good Luck in your weight loss goal, I know the Fitbit will help you get there. It did for me!!!

  4. Angie

I would like to buy a fitbit. I currently use myfitnesspal app to keep record of calories consumed and exercise. Myfitnesspal states it also is compatible with the fitbit. Anyone else tried and tested both together?

    • Admin

      Hey Angie,
I love my fitnesspal too. I was using it before I got my Fitbit and still use it everyday. Connecting your Fitbit tracker to your myfitnesspal account is super easy from the Fitbit website, just click on tools tab. Once connected, whenever you sync your Fitbit with computer, your stats will automatically update to your nyfitnesspal account. So to answer question, yes they work great together and its super easy to use. Thanks

I have had my fitbit tracker for 4 days and I am really enjoying it. I really love the sleep analysis. My only concern is customer support, I emailed them Sunday because one of the features was not working, and resetting it did not correct it, even though that feature started working on it’s own, I am concerned that I haven’t heard from fitbit as of the following Wednesday. I have read the other comments and saw nothing negative. I won’t worry about this, but I work in customer service and if we did not get back to a customer with 48hrs, we would be in the supervisor’s office explaining why.

I do love the tracker and the website, I am on the website several times a day logging water, meals, watching my activity level, etc.I just hope I never need customer service .

    • Admin

I am sorry to hear of your issue, hopefully they realized their mistake and quickly got it corrected. I am glad your are enjoying your Fitbit. I know I love mine. :)

how does the fitbit compare to the fitbug? they’ve been around a lot longer (since 2005) and they’ve had time to hone their customer experience. just curious as i’ve been a long time member of fitbug and i’m pretty happy with them.

    • Admin

I personally have never used the Fitbug, I have heard that it is also a good device, Anyone else have some experience with the Fitbug they would like to share?

  7. jeanne lang

I love my fitbit and the software that comes with it. Mine started to “dim” and company sent me a new one. It’s become a part of me since it is so little and I can wear it with everything. I find the sleep tracking to be very accurate! great product, great company!

    • Admin

I have heard nothing but good experiences that people have had with Fitbit, all devices no matter who the manufacturer is will eventually have a few that malfunction is some way, Fitbit knows this and does everything they can to make it right and get a new Fitbit to customer as soon as possible.

  8. Sherri

Yes there is a FITBIT app for iPhone I just downloaded it tonight :)

    • Admin

Yes the Fitbit App for the Iphone is pretty sweet!!

  9. Misty Greek

I got my fitbit for chistmas and i absolutely love it. That is why i was extremely disappointed when about 2 months later it stopped working. I emailed the company and after some online trouble shooting that didn’t work they did the unthinkable. The company actually mailed me a new one. I KNOW RIGHT. I thought good customer service was a dying art form. No receipt, box or proof of purchase necessary. I also got it in two days after order was processed. I feel whole again with my fitbit snuggly on my body. I wear it ALL the time. It helps me stay motivated, even makes me work a little harder and eat a little less. I have to say it was my best christmas present. I am a FitBiter for LIFE.

  10. Carmen Galvan

my son washed cloth and put my fitbit {purple} on washer I ran to get it out but it had already drowned. its there anyway to dry it. it worked for a while but it did not pull through,. I am heart broken.

    • Admin

I am really sorry to hear about that Carmen.

I cannot promise that it will work but right now trying a couple things and taking a chance is better than nothing, I suppose.

This worked for me when I was washing dishes and dropped my cell phone in a sink full of soapy water. I would imagine this could work for the Fitbit as well. I took off the back battery cover, removed the battery and put phone in ziploc bag with a couple of those silica packs that normally come in the box with a new pair of shoes, You know the little white bags that say ” Do Not Eat”. I left them in their sealed for a day or two. Phone dried out and has worked fine ever-since.

Hope this works for you, Good Luck!!
